قصة الكتاب :
The Travels of Pietro della Valle in India… Volume II, 1st series, 85, 1892 (1891).\r\nPietro della Valle’s vivid style has been acclaimed as ‘the literary equivalent of Caravaggio’s\r\ncontemporary radical naturalism’ (Bibliography, J.-P. Rubiès, p. 386). His eight letters from\r\nIndia, here published in G. Havers’ translation of 1664, record his experiences from his\r\narrival at Surat in 1623 to his departure from Goa in November 1624. The editor, Edward\r\nGrey, retired from the Indian Civil Service, provides a condensed biography of the author, a\r\nshort account of the Portuguese in India and a history of the text in its different language\r\nversions. These letters were part of a longer sequence which he sent back from Turkey and\r\nPersia to a Neapolitan friend for publication. In the event, the Indian letters were not\r\npublished in his lifetime (d.1652) and, though left in an unedited form, have never lost their\r\nappeal: CUP reprinted this edition in 2012.\r\n
