قصة الكتاب :
\"Berlin Alexanderplatz\" is a novel by the German author Alfred Doblin, one of the most prominent literary figures of the German modernity. Doblin wrote several novels, radio and cinema drama, and history books. He published his oeuvre in 30 volumes. Alexanderplatz, the title of the novel and its plot\'s setting, is a large square in Berlin\'s down town. It is one of the most modernized parts of the city in terms of modern buildings and the several cafes and restaurants around it. The square is given its name to honour the Czar of Russia Alexander I upon his visit to the city in 1805. 59 The plot revolves around Franz Beiberkopf and his underworld. After completing his four years sentence of imprisonment, he didn\'t seem to learn the lesson; Franz maintains active links with the world of crime. Despite been warned by many people he is betrayed by his friend Reinhold who kills Mieze, a prostitute and friend of Franz upon whom he relied managing his day to day life. To have the worst of it, Reinhold tries to blame the killing on Franz who resorts to a psychiatric hospital where he begins to relate the stories of his life to his doctors who believe he is the killer. The narrative is a painstaking reflection on the lives of the working class in the surroundings of Alexanderplatz square in Berlin. It depicts the miseries of the poor in the light of the escalating Nazism of the 1920s, along with the catastrophic impacts on the economic and livelihood levels that fostered radical changes on people\'s lives. The upheaval inflicted on the poor was accompanied by moral decay, which stands in a sharp contrast with the luxurious lives of the advantaged class who benefited from war or Nazism.
