قصة الكتاب :
“A Doll\'s House” is a three-act play in prose by the Norwegian playwright Henrik Johan Ibsen, often referred to as \"the father of modern theater\". Ibsen wrote 26 plays that feature a deep look into life and poetic expression, though his work generally leans towards serious tragedy. “A Doll’s House” was publically performed for the first time in 1879. Upon its publication, the play aroused anger among the audience who threw tomatoes at the actors because they believed that the play violated the norms of society that are related to women and marriage, and that it compromised the woman’s role in serving her husband and family. The play is still causing a lot of clamor among its proponents and opponents to this date. The play’s title is derived from its protagonist, Nora, who was like a doll to her father, and later on to her husband too. Nora’s life seemed quiet on the surface, the kind of life that her father and husband have decided for her. However, deep inside, she was far from being happy, especially because she borrowed some money to cover her husband’s treatment. Nora’ husband denied and insulted her. Eventually, she left the house filled with anger. The play caused a great deal of stir in Europe and was among the most significant works of literature that addressed the issue of women in the nineteenth century. Some critics compared it to “Anna Karenina” and “Madame Bovary” novels both of which showed empathy with women and focused on their issues. In Ibsen’s play, Nora takes the doll’s mask off to reveal her real human face, a step that sparked much turmoil in Europe and the world which knows very little about women and which does not recognize their rights.
